.300 HAM'R Load Data & Reloading Guide
Also known as: .300 HAMR, .300 Hammer
About .300 HAM'R
The .300 HAM'R is a relatively new cartridge developed by Wilson Combat, introduced in 2018, designed to enhance the performance of the popular AR-15 platform for both hunting and tactical applications. Its creation was driven by the desire to achieve ballistic energy levels comparable to the .30-30 Winchester in a modern, semi-automatic rifle, making it an attractive option for medium range hunting and tactical shooting scenarios.
This caliber typically operates with bullet weights ranging from 110 to 150 grains, offering optimal versatility for different shooting situations. The .300 HAM'R delivers notably higher velocities and energy levels than the .300 Blackout while using higher chamber pressures, which helps maximize power within the AR-15's magazine-fed system. Achieving muzzle velocities in the range of 2,450 to 2,600 feet per second with 125-grain bullets, it strikes an excellent balance between speed, accuracy, and terminal performance.
In terms of practical application, the .300 HAM'R excels in hunting environments, particularly for medium-sized game such as deer and hogs. Its ballistics offer significant advantage at ranges up to 300 yards, where bullet drop and wind drift remain minimal with proper load selection. For competition shooters, it offers reliable cycling in AR-15 platforms with familiar, manageable recoil and consistent accuracy, making it a viable choice for tactical matches and 3-gun events.
For reloaders, the .300 HAM'R presents numerous benefits, including the availability of a variety of components such as brass and bullets compatible with the .308 diameter. Reloaders can customize their loads to achieve desired performance metrics, tailoring powder charges and bullet weights to specific needs. The intermediate size and common component availability mean developing precise, high-performance loads is both practical and cost-effective, making it a reloader-friendly option within the AR platform calibers.
