About 9.5 x 66 SE v. Hofe

The 9.5×66 SE vom Hofe is a distinctive European big-game cartridge introduced in 1972 by German designer Walter Gehmann in collaboration with ammunition manufacturer Wolfgang Romey. Following Ernst August vom Hofe’s death in 1945, Gehmann acquired the rights to the historic vom Hofe name and continued development of the renowned cartridge family. The 9.5×66 SE was created in cooperation with the British gunmaker Westley Richards, which sought a .375-caliber cartridge capable of delivering performance comparable to the .375 H&H Magnum while fitting standard-length Mauser actions. In the United Kingdom it was also marketed as the .375 Westley Richards. Based on the successful 7×66 SE vom Hofe case, the cartridge offered excellent power and accuracy for large and dangerous game and remains a respected but uncommon choice among enthusiasts, collectors, and dedicated handloaders.
