The .50 Action Express (AE) is a powerful handgun cartridge that was introduced in 1988 by Magnum Research, Inc. It was developed in collaboration with Evan Whildin of Action Arms to push the limits of handgun power for the Desert Eagle platform, one of the few pistol designs that can accommodate its large size and intense recoil. The .50 AE was conceived to provide a potent caliber option for firearms enthusiasts desiring maximum stopping power, particularly for large game hunting and silhouette shooting.
The .50 AE cartridge has a rebated rim designed to fit the bolt face of a .44 Magnum, allowing easy conversion on compatible platforms.
